How we started from Grassroots
Youth Focus on Transforming Communities (YFTC) is a refugee-led, youth-driven, community-based organization working to empower young people, women, and vulnerable groups through digital education, access to connectivity, skills development, and environmental sustainability.
YFTC was founded in Zone 4 Annex, Bidibidi Refugee Settlement, Yumbe District, Uganda, in response to real challenges faced by refugees and host communities—limited access to technology, few opportunities for youth and women, and growing environmental pressures. Our goal is simple: to help communities gain the skills and tools they need to learn, earn, and thrive in a changing world.
The organization began as a grassroots initiative started by passionate refugee youth who saw the urgent need to bridge the digital divide, strengthen youth and women leadership, and promote environmental awareness. Over time, this initiative grew into a structured platform focused on inclusion, innovation, and sustainable development at the community level.
Through our programs, YFTC provides digital education and access to connectivity, equips youth and women with practical skills and leadership opportunities, supports entrepreneurship and innovation, and promotes climate-smart and environmentally sustainable practices.
Today, YFTC is recognized as a leading refugee-led organization in Bidibidi, committed to transforming lives, building resilience, and creating inclusive opportunities for both refugees and host communities.
